I remember this day well. My whole family at the coast. It was cloudy and cool, which was perfect for our liking. We laughed and played. There were some arguments. We ate sugar. And pizza. We dipped our feet in the cold water. Felt the coarse sand between our toes. It was gritty and uncomfortable. We removed it with baby powder. We drove home at the end of the day. Tired. Well fed. One trip of many like it. Same recipe but new every time.
Feeling a bit down. Might post some pics for a hit of dopamine.
This one was taken during winter years ago at Humboldt Bay in Arcata, CA. If you know what kind of flowers those were, I’d love it if you shared!

The deer in my Western Washington woods are Columbian Black-tailed deer, a subspecies of the much larger mule deer found east of the Cascades.
Got frost?
Since it might freeze tonight I put the lids on the plastic jars that are protecting these lettuce transplants. The jars help protect the small plants from being battered by the wind and I like to think they might help keep slugs off. The jars originally had mixed nuts and I cut the bottoms off.
Also in the pic are Walla Walla onions that were started from seed last fall and overwintered in the greenhouse before being transplanted into this raised bed.

I used to love driving every weekend up and down to Bellingham from the Seattle area, from college to work.
