If passed, this policy would put people at risk - the act of crossing into another country with a passport that doesn’t reflect their gender accurately would be dangerous. This legislation is harmful and unnecessary. Rubio’s State Dept is blocking passports & visas for those with an ‘X’ gender marker—a direct attack on trans & nonbinary rights. This could strand Americans abroad & deny entry to trans travelers.

The culling of #GSA’s #18F in particular, a specialized #digital services agency tasked w/improving #user experience w/govt services & helping #FederalAgencies build & buy a variety of #tech, has crippled programs that silently but effectively prepared Americans for #weather #disasters or streamlined tasks, like renewing a #passport or filing #taxes. Over the wknd, ~90 technologists at 18F were fired via surprise email that went out shortly before 1AM ET on Sat morning.

Remember all those WWII movies where the #Nazis demand to see your papers?
You can order a wallet sized #passport ID card that's easy to carry in a wallet or clutch. As far as I know it will only get you across the Canadian or Mexican border but it might help in a situation like this. Mine is with me all of the time and I encourage my family to carry them as well.
Live in the US and don't have a passport? Get both now.
my passport ID card is on the way later this week or next for sure.
only question is what Gender Marker is it gonna have since i also had my birth certificate changed from male to female and gov docs.

I believe we need a new tag, something like above. What could each of us DO on our own? #Today was interesting. The first two started me thinking about the third.
1- helped a #trans man thwart his family's attempt to deadname him in a family obituary. Yes, we won.
2 - paid a young woman's #passport application fee. She was crying when she found out how much it would be.
3-started a list and wrote myself some goals for upcoming days

@christineburns @transworld Sex is a mandatory field on #ICAO 9303-compliant #passports (see part 4, section 4.1), a standard first published in 1980.
It's unclear to me how sex became part of the #standard. From immediately accessible accounts of the process, it was rather informal, bouncing around between a small working group and assorted ICAO representatives.
