I just got a conversational opportunity to quote Tom Waits’ line from “Step Right Up,” (in gravelly voice) “The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away,” thinking as I said it that I would feel smug at the reference.
But given what we were talking about, I didn’t feel so good about its application to reality.

Tried 3 different web browsers - nothing.

I'm so jealous of all the videos I see of dads manicuring their lawns already.

I just want to get out there and rake and over-seed and fertilize my precious lawn. Make cute little lawn stripes and then judge my neighbors for their brown, weed-infested grass.

BUT I still have piles of snow on my lawn that haven't melted away yet!

Another day of listening to gangster rap music while editing PowerPoints and PDFs.

Medical update: I’ve been referred. Now I wait to find out how long I have to wait.

I shall let the preassessment nurse know.

Oh, now what‽

The pre-assessment nurse was worried about something during my prodding and poking last Friday. She’s been on at me to see if my GP has decided what to do.

My GP hasn’t even looked at it yet.

Any long delay might mean my elective procedure - booked for first thing this coming Saturday - might be delayed.

I don’t want that. I am now angry and stressed.

Council tax bill arrives.

Still has Best Beloved's name on it, so full amount due. I thought I’d sorted that already.

Half an hour on hold, and now it’s sort of sorted.

Seems I have to apply for the single occupancy discount. What a palaver that was, as the council uses the same form for applying for housing benefits.

Now I wait.

Nur drei Stunden schulplanmäßiger Besuch in der Gedenkstätte Sachsenhausen gestern haben ihn heute Nacht mit voller Wucht eingeholt.

Just dropped another $1,000 on carpet installation.

The total damage of our leaky basement from a super wet summer is $8,000+ now.

$5,000 - outdoor basement waterproofing
$2,000 - indoor mold removal and floor/drywall refinishing
$1,000 - carpet / underpad replacement

And this was considered a "small" job by most contractors we called. A couple who declined the job because it wasn't worth it to them.

Homeownership is wild... don't buy a house. Get a condo with amenities and no shoveling snow or cutting grass and underground parking

After lecturing my kid on the price of Pokemon cards and how we "can't buy them all", I proceeded to drop $500 on a new Apple Watch.
