#ScribesAndMakers 14 Apr: Would you enjoy living in a creative village/house/shared accommodation? Or do you already?

I definitely wouldn't want to live in a shared house or any other kind of shared accommodation. I'm even more of an introvert now than when I was young.

However, you could say that I already live in a creative village. My local friends are creative people. We meet and talk about what we're doing, yet have our own homes where we have quiet and privacy to do our creative work.

On Sunday the 27th of April, the legendary Strange Seawolf, author of Herald Petrel, will be our featured creator. Find more info on their profile, and please check out this interview with @Tattooed_mummy tattooedmummy.co.uk/2024/08/?m We invite you to join us in asking questions on the 27th by tagging @strangeseawolf (type @ to tag, this link won't copy over) along with #ScribesAndMakers and #TTMD They enjoy 'What if..." sorts of questions more than irl questions.

#ScribesAndMakers 14 Apr: Would you enjoy living in a creative village/house/shared accommodation?

I don't think so.

I think a village/town/city that's designed for humans is ideal for me. Riding busses/trains/trams and walking everywhere, having lots of third spaces and free activities. That's specifically what I mean.

Being around creative people exclusively feels limiting. I'd rather have a whole society that fosters creativity, curiosity and community.

#ScribesAndMakers 14 Apr: Would you enjoy living in a creative village/house/shared accommodation?

No. I have years of experience with sharing a flat with flat mates, and I do not want this anymore. I need a lot of time for myself, so I feel good about living alone. I have friends and family and a partner (we do "living together apart"), I talk to other creative folks online often and this is enough for me.

April 14. Would you enjoy living in a creative village/house/shared accommodation? Or do you already?

A formal one? That would be quite terrifying for me, I think. I like the informal creative house in which I live, where elder Nocash Jr is a musician and producer, youngest Nocash Jr is a drummer and is teaching himself the guitar, Nocashette Jr (middle child) is an artist, photographer, animator, filmmaker, and Mrs Nocash is a crafter and gardener. That’s all I need.

How's your creativity this month? Anything you would like help with?

April won’t be my most creative month because I’m focused on putting the Chapter Two on sale. But I took the opportunity of the comics festival this weekend to do some sketches.

[Oups 🙈it appears I have mixed up with tomorrow question 🙃]

#ScribesAndMakers 14/04: Would you enjoy living in a creative village/house/shared accommodation?

For reasons of my own I need a lot of personal space, so I don't know if I would enjoy it. (Certain experiences of disabled people in an ableist society...) Yet I would consider it the better option in case of emergency, assistance etc. There's no sense in thinking about it in depth because in this country it's not even the norm to live by yourself in my situation, which I have the privilege to do

Who are the masters of your art or craft to you? Why?

There are many #writers I could name here. But one comes to mind immediately: Stephen King.

Not necessarily because of his prosaic way of #writing. No, his strengths lie elsewhere. His art of creating believable and profound characters. And his variability when it comes to different genres. Last but not least, his high sales figures, which prove that he reaches many readers with his texts.

The other day the #ScribesAndMakers asked us to "show what you're proud of," and as usual I talked about my medieval mystery novels. But the book I'm proudest of, and always will be, is this one. Ten years in the making, hours spent transcribing 1000-year-old manuscripts, hundreds of books and journal articles read.... The Homiletic Writings of Archbishop Wulfstan: A Critical Study.

There was a time I'd have said That Rapist Guy, but it turns out he cribbed some of his best work from Tanith Lee, and then refused to credit her as even so much as an influence or inspiration, despite being repeatedly asked to. So fuck that guy, and maybe I'd say Tanith Lee, but I need to read some of her stuff first. 2/2

#ScribesAndMakers Day 13: Who are the masters of your art or craft to you? Why?

[Keeping it to SFF writers, not just "writers in general.]

Ursula K. LeGuin, John M. Ford, and Susan Cooper. Why? For their storytelling ability, of course! For their ability to tell stories that entertain, that draw us in, that make us feel while we're reading them and then to make us think afterward. Stories that live in our hearts. 1/2

#ScribesAndMakers 13 Apr: Who are the masters of your art or craft to you? Why?

There are many writers I admire and they're too numerous to mention. Some created worlds I love visiting vicariously, others created memorable characters. However, there is no one I particularly want to emulate.

When I was young, comparing myself to my favourite writers was disheartening, so I stopped doing it and just focused on telling my stories as best I can.
