General Purpose Media Interface (GPMI) is a proprietary audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed video data and compressed or uncompressed digital audio data from a source device, such as a display controller, to a computer monitor, video projector, digital television, or digital audio. It supports data transmission rates up to 144 Gbps, accommodating ultra-high-definition video content such as 8K at 120 frames per second. It can power devices with up to 480 W of power. GPMI combines multiple signal types—including information flow, control signals, power supply, and audio/video—into a single cable, simplifying connectivity. It utilizes a sideband interaction channel to reduce device wake-up times to a quarter of those in comparable technologies. GPMI enables multi-channel bidirectional video transmission and mesh networking. GPMI operates over the Type-C interface compatible with existing ecosystems for portable devices and also offers the type-B interface for higher bandwidth and power delivery. In terms of security it offers the ADCP content protection protocol. GPMI was developed by the Shenzhen 8K UHD Video Industry Cooperation Alliance that includes over fifty Chinese member companies, including Huawei, Skyworth, and Hisense.

China develops its own HDMI alternative GPMI

China's GPMI connection is faster than Thunderbolt 5 and charges devices with twice the power. Huawei and other manufacturers see it as an alternative to HDMI.

#HDMI-Konkurrenz #GPMI:

After my precious #HDBaseT in-home streaming solution was stolen by a neighbor last week (Amazon refunded me), I settled for a more more low-tech solution: I ordered a 10 m #HDMI cable and a 15 m active #USB 2.0 extension.

It's more conduit for sure, but cheaper and probably less hassle to set up as well.

Can't wait for #PC couch #gaming at 4K60 🤓

Do I know anyone who's ever tried to capture an ARM-based #apple #Mac using a capture card? I am running into the dreaded #HDCP issues that seem to be common with these and google's failing me for a solution.
Does using a #HDMI splitter still work for these cases or is there some kind of fancy tool to just disable HDCP for the duration? I'm not planning on capturing copyrighted material, it's just that this is on by default universally on macs for ... a reason that escapes me but I'm sure is very forward-thinking, magical and revolutionary. #streaming #contentCreation #hacks

@benbrown depends on your workflow.

You can even use a #RaspberryPi with the #HDMI2CSI adapter board.

  • OFC you propably need a splitter so the sending device gets a proper #EDID and doesn't negotiate the wron resolution.

Don't forget that cracking #HDCP is a legal no-no, but there's no way for anyone to find out...
