#gotek

One of the contacts is gone, and the plastic is burnt. Did the USB stick short two neighboring pins?

I wonder if simply replacing the USB connector will suffice? I'll try if I can find a broken board to rip the connector from...

My #Tektronix #tds700 series scope got its #gotek floppy emulator and it works great. Its not exactly fast, but I expected this.

I did not need the "reversing" flat flex cable as the original one is the correct type.

This thing is approaching 30 years, but its not that dusty inside.

The fan sometimes makes some bearing noises (will add a few drops of oil to the bearings soon).

I am mainly concerned about the NVRAM and RTC. Both contain coin cells embedded in the package so I need to desolder them, make a big plastic dremeling mess and add new coin cells. But first I need to find out how to dump the factory calibration... this is a new rabbit hole - yay.

Eventually, I found the brains to proceed with the #Gotek mod for my HP #4952A.
The Fluke 11 is helping, and the IDC crimper worked a treat! (I'm considering a test board with 34-pin headers and a ton of LEDs. This stuff hurts my brain...)

Now, to trim the excess wires and put a few connectors on the SWCLK and 5VDC.
Also, I need to add headers to the Gotek.

Apparently, it is possible to buy a pre-flashed Gotek to work with #Tektronik #TDS700 #TDS600 scopes. For 170€ incl. shipping.

Lets see if I can do this for ~40€.

Ingredients:
1. #Gotek SFRM72-DU26 (~33€ shipped)
2. #flashfloppy firmware to make it 1.44 MB
3. OLED display (2.5€ shipped) 128x32px
4. 26 pin 1 mm "type B" 200 mm flat flex (3.5€ shipped)

The flat flex is required to reverse the pinning.
The OLED is optional but cheap and a huge debugging aid.
Flashfloppy can be flashed with two USB-A to USB-C cables, an USB-C extension Adapter (A to A cable) and a piece of wire, so basically free (had the parts handy).

The flat flex will arrive at ~end of december. So maybe this will be an xmas gift to myself...

The #Gotek for my HP #4952A experiment arrived.
Also found a set of 8 GB USB sticks that had one that is kind of HP blue. 😎
I still don't know what will have to be done to connect it, but I found a few articles that describe the required mods.
Step 1 probably is to install the HxC firmware to the Gotek, either via USB or FTDI.
