"While the basic eyes of most #snails look like small black dots, #ConchSnails have eyes that are up to 10 times bigger than any of their relatives. These mobile, stalked eyes can peer in all directions"
The #snail #Arianta #arbustorum (#Helicidae, #Gastropoda) is a land snail (#Stylommatophora) that is quite common in #Berlin, especially in urban #forest areas. However, the snail is flexible in terms of its #ecological requirements and can also be found in open areas. It is widespread in Central Europe and northwestern Europe and primarily requires #moisture. It also appears in #mountainous areas of up to 2700 m. #biodiversity #Mollusca

Was this a self portrait? It just feels very me right now...
We got back to the Wiley Trails this morning for our first hike in a couple of weeks, and saw the most adorable wee amber snail (𝘚𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘢 sp.):
Tiny baby #slug - I believe it's a native banana slug but am unsure. It may be an invasive baby chocolate/black slug. I am not educated enough on slugs to tell at baby stage. I can easily identify mature slugs.
Any slug experts here, who can help with this slug identification?
I remember as a young kid, I felt sorry for slugs because I thought all of them were homeless snails. I tried to gift slugs some shell homes but no slug ever accepted my free shell homes offerings
Odd snail. Well not odd in Sri Lanka but it is new therefore odd to me...
Grandinenia jiangjilini: A #NewSpecies of Grandinenia (#Gastropoda: Stylommatophora: Clausiliidae: Garnieriinae) from Guangxi
https://novataxa.blogspot.com/2024/07/grandinenia.html
"The discovery indicates that the inflated-fusiform shell is not isolated in genus Grandinenia and the species diversity of the genus still remains to be explored."
Amed is famous for small stuff, among them many nudibranchs. #MarineLife #Gastropoda #Bali

Overlooked #PredatorySnails from #PapuaNewGuinea: nine new Torresiropa (#Gastropoda: Stylommatophora: Rhytididae) https://www.schweizerbart.de/papers/archmoll/detail/152/103560/Overlooked_predatory_snails_from_Papua_New_Guinea_?af=crossref
"These #NewSpecies of #snails were found in areas that still have #NativeVegetation and still appear to be doing well, but they could easily become endangered if things change... All 9 species have dagger-shaped teeth on their #radula, which is characteristic of predatory snails"
@harry_wood @ultrazool Few random snails for them then (might all be the same kind as I'm no good at separating these little ones).
Did you know snails can have hair?? I didn't.
ID'd for me on #iNaturalist as _Trochulus hispidus_, the hairy snail. Taken a while back but I think I forgot to post it.
#BREAKING: found the absolute tiniest little snail today it's so cute i can't even!!!
