Teacups. Tiny monsters.
Enjoying a peaceful moment to themselves. Humans aren't the only ones who enjoy a spot of tea now and again. Little monsters have been know to slip quietly into kitchens when no one is around and sneak a sip of two of freshly brewed sweetness. This sleepy creature drank a bit too much sweet jasmine tea and found it hard to stay awake. Shhhhhh...

Gorgeous Monsters & Their Pets
Welcome to my new interview series. I am the official human spokesperson for the Guardian Monster Guild, editor of the "Monster Times & Review" and author of the glamorous tell-all book, "What Monsters Want". These are hard-won credentials that I have worked tirelessly to obtain. As an ordinary human being, entering the realm of Monsterdom requires a rigorous determination, and an ego that can survive all manner of taunts, threats and indignation. I have endured countless nips, pokes and licks from numerous monsters whose intent, it seems, was to provoke me into giving up. I have proved them wrong! NOTE: This latest set of interviews on monster pets is for human eyes only and includes interviews with a select group from the Gorgeous Monsters Society. (This is the name they give themselves.) Monsters have babies too.
Baby monsters are even harder to find than the elusive "baby" pigeon. Very few folks can say that they've seen them, let alone created their portraits. I have been lucky. As you might imagine, monster parents can be a bit protective. Mothers in particular. They consider us (humans) more than a bit strange and potentially dangerous. It took most of my free time, lots of monster "treats" and carefully followed Monster Etiquette to befriend just a few of them. Even then, I felt a bit nervous and on edge as I made sketches of their most beloved offspring. It is always a good idea to remind oneself that monsters are ultimately unpredictable creatures, and should be given proper respect at all times.

It nervously stares (at me) with large bulging eyes, while the other hand is clamped firmly in its mouth. “Midnight Madness”

It took a little longer than the others but in the end I’m glad it did.

Now normally, I would move on to another small project that would incorporate the new skills/techniques I’ve acquired. However this time I think I’m going to keep at it. I’m throughly enjoying just making backgrounds and following along to instructionals.

(I have to mention, all of these illustrations I’ve made are based off the teachings of YouTuber James Julier. He’s great at instructing you through the process.)

GUARDIAN MONSTERS for Protection and Inspiration
This sweet Guardian Monster is called Cosgrove Nostrillikus.
PERSONALITY: Curious and friendly, his favorite occupation is discovery through the senses of smell and taste which provide endless hours of learning and entertainment. His easy going nature is often mistaken for simple or limited thinking, but do not be fooled. He is very intelligent and savvy.

POTENTIAL ISSUES: He has a fondness for the colors orange or yellow and feels compelled to taste them even when they are clearly NOT sources of food. This may cause distress, perhaps even hostility, in those who have not been forewarned, especially if you happen to be wearing these colors. Unfortunately his sensitive nose, which is especially vulnerable to the acrid smells of anger, may cause him to break into a spell of violent sneezing. This is his body’s natural response to expel the offensive odor. Please do not take it personally.

RULES OF ETIQUETTE: Do not wear clothing or jewelry in shades of orange or yellow during the initial introduction unless you enjoy being licked. He does not wish to offend you but may not be able to stop himself. Find a quiet room of neutral color, and then offer him a plate of carrot sticks and yellow jelly beans. That will satisfy his craving and allow him to focus on your issues. Try and relax. He really is there to help.
