Concerns Over Targeting of Pagan Community in #Pickens, #SouthCarolina

By Manny Moreno | February 25, 2025

Excerpt: "On February 18, a YouTube video titled 'Witches Be Crazy with Pastor Barry Vaughn' was released by Kevin Harden of Gaining Ground Ministries. The video opens with Harden quoting Deuteronomy 18:9-12, which warns against practices like divination, sorcery, and necromancy.

"Pastor Barry Vaughn and Harden discuss a recent witchcraft festival in Pickens and their efforts to evangelize at the event. Vaughn confirms his presence and states that he and others initially protested outside the venue, later entering the facility before being told to leave.

"Following the backlash, Stillwater Christian Fellowship escalated its response through sermons, podcasts, and videos. Members called on pastors to 'chase the wolves out', a phrase that critics argue refers to witches, #LGBTQIA+ individuals, and #AbortionRights supporters.

"Vaughn later clarified in a video that he does not promote violence but supports the enforcement of what he calls 'God’s law.'" [What about eating shellfish? Or mixing threads together? HYPOCRITES!]

SCOTUS just gave abortion clinics a rare win

But more significant threats from Trump’s Department of Justice remain.

by Julianne McShane, 2/24/2025

"Abortion rights advocates took the court’s rejection of the cases as a win, albeit a limited one.

"Katie O’Connor, director of federal abortion policy at the National Women’s Law Center, said that while the organization was “relieved” to hear about the court’s decision, “anti-abortion extremists are now more emboldened” thanks to Trump.

"Last month, for example, Trump’s DOJ announced it would limit enforcement of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, a 1994 federal law that prohibits physical force, threats, or intimidation against people trying to access reproductive health clinics. While the law has been used to prosecute both anti-abortion protesters targeting abortion clinics and abortion rights protesters targeting anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers, Trump baselessly claimed the Biden administration 'selectively weaponized [the law] against Christians.' The new DOJ guidance—which says the FACE Act should only be used in 'extraordinary circumstances' or cases involving 'death, serious bodily harm, or serious property damage'—reportedly has abortion providers bracing for more intense protests and fearing more violence. (The DOJ’s directive to limit FACE Act enforcement, though, does not override the legality of buffer zones, which are controlled by state and local law enforcement.)"

#Vermonters join national movement to #ProtestTrump administration policies

Hundreds of protesters took to the Statehouse steps in #MontpelierVermont on Wednesday as part of nationwide efforts to resist the president’s recent actions.

by Erin Petenko February 5, 2025, 2:22 pm

"Hundreds of Vermonters joined a protest against the Trump administration on the steps of the Statehouse on Wednesday — part of a national movement to resist President Donald #Trump’s policies since he came into office two weeks ago.

"The #protest movement, titled 50501, is a decentralized initiative to bring protests to every state capitol in the nation. Vermonters arrived at the Statehouse in Montpelier with signs, flags and chants, despite the blustery 13-degree weather. [it was a balmy 24 degrees here in Maine.]

"The themes of attendees’ signs ranged from objections to #ElonMusk’s involvement in the administration to supporting #LGBTQ+ rights, #AbortionRights and the #Palestinian cause. If any thread unified the protesters, it was the desire to push back against what they said was Trump’s anti-democratic approach to his presidential power and harm to #marginalized people.

"Several state legislators attended the protest, joining in on chants and speaking to folks in the crowd. Among them were Rep. Mari Cordes, D-Lincoln; Rep. Saudia LaMont, D-Morristown; and Rep. Jubilee McGill, D-Bridport, who told VTDigger the Trump administration had been front-of-mind for them, not only as individuals but also as representatives of a small state likely to be heavily affected by Trump policies such as his proposed tariffs."

New Zine: How To Do It Anyway: A Guide to Self-Managing an Abortion at Home

"This zine is a love letter to anyone who finds themself hungry for the information contained in these pages, no matter the circumstances that lead to this booklet coming into your hands. This resource was diligently compiled and written with care by a few clinic workers in the midwest for the patients we can’t see anymore, in the wake of the US Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022."

@inthehands Not quite "The Leftovers IRL" levels, but in the ballpark, and probably an undercount. Meanwhile, per the same authors (danieldench.com/static/pdfs/wo), forced-birth policies cause >2% increase in birth rates in ban states. An outflow of mobile young adults now, replaced by impoverished children. Just what the reich ordered.

These analyses are based on public, federal data (USPS CoA forms, CDC Wonder DB), so I expect the Trump admin to block research access to them soon enough, or just stop collecting it altogether.

More Trump Lies!

Trump on Friday signed two orders to limit women's access to contraception and abortion.

The first action repealed Biden-era policies that encouraged federal agencies to support and expand the availability of such services; the second restored restrictions on foreign organizations that receive any US government financing or grants from promoting abortion care.

Hours after Trump takes office and the federal website for reproductive rights is officially offline.

First they came for Roe… and they won. Women lost the right to control their own bodies which had been enshrined in the constitution for decades.

Of course the website is offline … because they don’t want us to have any rights.

Abortion bans may be just the the beginning. “Our body, their choice.”

Cecile Richards, former Planned Parenthood president and feminist activist, has died of an aggressive brain cancer at age 67. She entered politics as a teenager, working on a campaign to elect Sarah Weddington, the lawyer who fought Texas' abortion ban in Roe v. Wade, to the state legislature. She continued to work as an activist and reproductive rights advocate all her life, most recently helping launch a chatbot that provided information about where and how people could terminate their pregnancies. Here's @19thnews's tribute to her.
