Morgens Aufwachen in... Rio Grande. Übernachtung an einer YPF Tankstelle.
Es gab wie immer viel Wind. So haben wir den Tankwart gefragt wann der Wind aufhört.
Antwort:
Schneit...kein Wind, Wind kein Schnee. So... Nun wissen wir Bescheid.
Der Wind ist sehr kalt und heftig. Türen öffnen beim Auto nur mit viel Kraft und gut fest halten.

TBT Nine years ago, I spent a very, very cold night in my car above the junction of the Rio Grande and Red Rivers. I woke up early the next morning and hiked down to the river. This is just above where the Red River enters, just after dawn.

Lobatos Bridge across the Rio Grande
Conejos County, CO
I was wondering what would be an appropriate photo for the last day of the year. I came up with this image of a dirt road crossing a narrow bridge to a rocky shore with storm clouds building. Only way forward is across. Seemed appropriate to me. How about you?
Thank you to the person who bought a tee in my online TeePublic shop.

La Junta Point Wild Rivers New Mexico #1 by Debra Martz
From the trailhead, the elevation drop is 1,000 feet and then the trail leads to the rivers - the Rio Grande on the right and the Red River on the left, which converge farther south.

When half of the major #rivers across the planet are experiencing extreme low-water conditions, you know this is not just regional #drought. The heating from #ClimateChange has entirely messed with the water cycle, so when extreme storms hit these systems, there is erosion and severe damage. Water is a precious resource that cannot be forgotten. #Amazon #Mississippi #Ganges #Mekong #Colorado #Nile #Mackenzie #Vistula #Danube #Yangtze #Po #Paraná #RioGrande #Indus #Murray

Hiking Along the Rio Grande in South Texas by Debra Martz This was one of my favorite places for bird-watching in South Texas. It was quiet most of the time with only a handful of other people from time to time. It was so peaceful that it made hearing the birds calling and singing easy. And so beautiful that it's hard to believe this was winter; January 24th, 2018.

TBT This is eight years ago when we lived in Santa Fe. I often stopped where Highway 502 crosses the Rio Grande (where the Otowi Cafe was back in the 40s) when I was on my way into the countryside. This is on a beautiful monsoon afternoon, with Black Mesa in the distance.
