#CandidaAuris hat bei der Pandemiebehörde einen Antrag zur Teilnahme am #Pandemiewettrennen gestellt. Sie lehnte jedoch ab, weil er kein #Virus sondern nur ein 2009 entdeckter #Hefepilz sei. 
Aus Rache bereitet er zunehmend Sorgen in Deutschland. Mit 77 Fällen im Jahr 2023 - ein sechsfacher Anstieg gegenüber Vorjahren - ist er ein hartnäckiger Erreger, der insbesondere in Krankenhäusern gefährlich ist. Er ist übertragbar und resistent gegen viele #Medikamente.

"Candida auris" is a fungus that is resistant to many anti-fungal drugs, and becoming way more common.
It's type of yeast that was first identified in 2009 and is one of a number of species in the candida family that can infect people.
We asked a medical school professor who's an expert in infectious disease to explain what you should know about candida:
"The rise of C. Auris was helped by the covid pandemic.
'Covid-19 likely increases the risk for fungal infections because of its effect on the immune system and because treatments for Covid-19 (like steroids and other drugs) can weaken the body’s defenses against fungi,' the CDC says on its website."
