Apparently today is #WorldBookDay (why am I always late to these parties?)!

My #photography has been almost entirely self-taught, and most of that has come through reading books on the subject. I was a bookworm before I was a photographer, after all.

#Creatives, what's one book that has had the largest impact on your work? Let me know in the comments! Mine was Understanding Exposure (and others in his series) by Brian Peterson

Matthew Cantor

“_In his amusing and enlightening new book, Gabe Henry traces the history of these efforts, beginning with a 12th-century monk named Orrmin, continuing through the beginnings of American English and the movement’s 19th-century heyday, finally arriving at textspeak._”

Book 17 - The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood

An experimental, feminist retelling of Penelope from the Odessey. The use of the chorus (the maids' narrative), was inspired. It disects class and gender that remains relevant to today. It's unflinching in the abuses, yet bitingly funny.

3.5/5

Happy #WorldBookDay ! So, um, this is a special one for me because this year is the first time I HAVE BOOK. It's about real-world zombifiers—fungi (yes, like in #TheLastOfUs) worms, viruses and wasps—and their invertebrate victims.

OK, so it may not be the coziest of reads, but if zombies delight you perhaps this will too!

And if you buy a copy through @HopkinsPress , use the code HLFE25 to get a 40% discount, good through 4/30.

apparently it's world book day... incidentally, I read 3.5 books in the past 2 days after a rather long slump.

✅ still life in bones: genocide, forensics, and what remains by alexa hagerty
✅ the housemaid by freida mcfadden
✅ the housemaid's secret by freida mcfadden
▶️ trick mirror: reflections on self-delusion by jia tolentino

I listened on audible while working on repetitive tasks and then resumed on kindle when I'm off the clock. it's turning out to be a great system.

Check out Brewed Books' review of Mushroom Blues by Adrian M. Gibson, where she says: "The world building was so immersive. I felt like I was right in there among the spores. And our main characters had such strong voices and such growth.

I would definitely recommend picking this one up!"

Gibson @adrianmgibson Indie Ink Awards nominee @indieinkawards My thoughts here may not directly correlate to the ratings I give as an Indie Ink Award judge. That being said, I absolutely loved it. Five stars. This book addresses a war torn country, now under the control of an invading force. Our two main characters come from either side of this divide. Brought together with the common goal of solving the murders and disappearances of fungal children. We watch personal barriers be torn down between the two of them despite the feelings of most and it doesn’t heal the world but it feels like a good step. We also see the evil present on both sides which is another kind of torn down barrier when they can acknowledge that. The world building was so immersive.
