All Europeans 🇪🇺<p>Swiss Tech Company Proton Warns of Surveillance State Expansion ⚠️ </p><p>Proton CEO Andy Yen has raised concerns about a proposed revision to Switzerland's surveillance law, which he says would lead to an "aggressive expansion of the surveillance state". The law would require companies like Proton, which provide secure email and messaging services, to cooperate with authorities in extracting data, potentially compromising users' privacy.</p><p>Yen says: "We will be forced to leave Switzerland if the planned revision of the surveillance law comes into force. There is no way we can comply with this law. Ned Hairston :hehim: :theythem:<p>I just made the switch from Gmail to Proton. I've had Gmail since 1999 (when it was still in beta). But no more. I'll be gradually moving away from using Google services. A few years ago I did the same with Apple, forwarding emails from there to Gmail. Now it all forwards to Proton.</p><p>Proton is based in Switzerland and emails on Proton are end-to-end encrypted and everything, even your calendar and contacts, are stored encrypted. Meaning, if they get served a warrant, there's really nothing they can turn over.</p><p>This is especially important in a country that is increasingly criminalizing the very existence of myself and people like me. Get your data out of the US and stored securely. It has never been more important. The Privacy Foundation<p>On VPN usage...</p><p>Hypothetically, any system on the web that you interact with can "know" you. And while it is true that VPNs are no different, the reality is that using a paid ProtonVPN or similar non-US based service would require that service to cooperate internationally with a warrant. Proton does not store where you visited.
