One of my favourite things about being Australian on the internet is coming across comment threads on spider-related videos full of Aussies discussing their household huntsman spiders, and front-path orb weavers etc., their names, life stories, RIP messages telling of their sad demises when encountering visiting tourists or tradies 😆

Did you forget too?

My friend Dol, (Ms. Dolomedes Tenebrosus, if you're nasty).

She eats things I don't like. Flies.

During copulation, females of the species practice sexual cannibalism on their male counterparts WHAT, WAIT..

The other day when I finally got around to cleaning the computer out, and literally the cobwebs, I wondered to myself wtf spider is the one that always makes webs inside the case and is never seen. I think I might have found the subject. I just saw it crawling along but after taking the photos I noticed there was a random array of the fine webs on another loop of cable above this that look like what was inside.

Little-humped spiders have reached Oxford! #iNaturalist user flamingtofunz posted a photo yesterday.

This Australian spider was found in NZ in 2016 in #Christchurch and has spread southeast (Little River by 2022), south (Leeston by 2024), north (Pegasus by 2024), and now northwest to Oxford.

It's a small, distinctive social spider. A few 100 spiders work together to build large messy webs that catch a lot of insects.
