The archivist put the ancient copy of A #Primer of The Faith of the Air into Zenaida's hands, and she opened it carefully. The paper it was made with contained dandelion seeds & tiny, downy feathers. She turned to the catechism.

Question the First: Who are the Divinities of the Air? Answer: The Cloud, The Smoke, The Rising Vapor, The Floating Seed, The Winged Insect, The Bird.

"Is it what you were looking for?" the archivist asked.

"Yes," Zenaida replied, eyes shining.

Decorative metal work on glider access/inspection port covers.

I have seven inspection ports in the glider - three on each wing, and one at the bottom of the vertical fin. They are made of hard/high strength aluminum, which machines beautifully without galling.

I made a flat face rotary tool, with spongy backing, that holds a piece of sticky back sandpaper.

I'm experimenting (on the inner/hidden face) with 400 grit and liberal application of water as the tool spins in the drill press at lowest RPM.

I'll probably decorate the outer surfaces with a random pattern of swirly circles and leave the aluminum unpainted.

The horizontal stabilizer gets micro added along the leading edge.

I may need a second application tomorrow.

According to my airfoil templates, the leading edge is a little bit blunt, so I need to build it up a little bit and then sand it to the proper shape.

Of course, this delays my priming and painting dates by a few days or more.

If an airfoil is blunter than the design calls for, it has a bit higher drag. (However, the stall characteristics tend to be gentler, more forgiving.)

Ironically, most composite glider designs have the airfoils made from two mold halves...and the mold seam runs right along the leading edge...the most critical part of the airfoil.

So, you should expect to always add micro to the leading edge along that @#$%! seam, and sand/shape it. Sigh.

It's the nature of the beast.

There's rust around the throttle, blistering the paint.

In fact, there's rust around every cut made in the steel after the original primer went on … because those cuts weren't primed. They're all hidden by plastic covers or brass grills.

Everywhere the steel was cut must be accessed, rust removed, and then treated, primed, and repainted.

Q: Would I recommend the firm that fitted out this boat?
