I saw the Grinch today for the first time today.

It was ok. I was hoping it would be a classic..

My gripes are,

When they spoke in rhyme it was great , everything else was mostly meh. I haven't read the book but it feels like it was meant to be done in rhyme all the time.

The redemption felt forced. How did the 'dad' finally get the message his daughter was trying to tell. I mean that's the key part of the movie and he just 'gets' it suddenly.

I didn't buy it.

Also the girl that had a crush on him was an utter wimp. She left him alone for years and then suddenly had the courage to ask him out based on how sexy she thought he still was.

On the positive side I liked Jim Carrey:s expressions and his relationship with dog. He was the highlight. Antony Hopkins as narrator was a great choice too.

Friends, I don’t know how I lucked out. I had the notion to take a walk this afternoon, #Christmas Day, but I dawdled, thinking I’d finish watching an interesting TV show. Suddenly, 15 min before the end, I had the urge to go out. I headed to Sophia Square, hoping #Ukraine’s national Christmas tree would be lit, although it was still daylight. Maybe it wouldn’t be since there’d been 3 nationwide attacks on energy infrastructure today, & emergency power outages had been introduced. But just as I arrived and was thrilled to see the tree lit, so also arrived the stars! ✨ 🌟✨ OMG what a sight, what a sound: a throng of Ukrainians carrying homemade stars & singing carols! It reminded me of the scene in How The #Grinch Stole Christmas, when the Whos, despite having been robbed of so much, assembled in the square around the star of their faith to celebrate the meaning of Christmas in their community. 💗 I followed the procession to Maidan Nezalezhnosti. What a wonderful celebration! 💙💛

The Ukrainian National Christmas Tree in Sophia Square. It’s about 6 meters tall, white with tiny blue lights and a gold star on top. In the background are the gold and green domes of Sophia Cathedral. The sky is overcast. In the foreground are some of the many homemade stars affixed to the top of long sticks carried by marchers. The stars are about 50 cm across, very colorful, with many points, some decked out in little lights, one bearing an icon of Jesus.
