Never underestimate the impact of open source on long-term development in innovation in hardware and software.

I remember discussions claiming that RISC-V would never compete with other processors, and so on. It reminds me of the discussions in the late nineties where people said Linux was nice but would never compete with SunOS, AIX, or HP/UX.

People should focus on RISC-V, not just ARM or other proprietary architecture.

I'm using Thinkpad X220 with second generation i5 and 16GB RAM.

I have RHEL 9.5 (Alma with Plasma 5) and run constantly:
- Zen (firefox) with many tabs
- VSCode with Copilot
- GIMP
- PromotionNG via Q4Wine
- Tuba (podcasts)
- Slack, Signal, Discord

5+ days of this and I see no speed downgrade. Everything is smooth and super stable. I do not need to say anything more about the build quality of retro Thinkpads. For now it is the best PC I got.

Ich habe hier zwei aus einem #Notebook ausgebaute interne 2,5"-HDDs, jeweils ca. 80-90 GB Kapazität, mindestens 20 Jahre alt. Ich weiß nicht, was ich damit noch Sinnvolles anfangen kann, und werde sie bald zur Entsorgung abgeben. Aber falls jemand eine tolle Idee für eine bessere Verwendung hat, überlege ich es mir gerne noch mal.
