A year ago today, on my 50th birthday, I am embarked on an endeavor to draw every day for a year. I did it. I only missed a few days, when I was really sick and one time when I was camping. I wanted to do this because I know I am most productive when I’m held accountable, even if the accountability I feel from others is an illusion (I know none of you all would be mad at me if I missed some days!) I also wanted to push myself to be free with my drawings, less precious, looser. I wanted to see how my digital drawing style would change if I really stuck to it. I wanted to learn what I really loved drawing, rather than what I thought I should draw. I wanted to get more vulnerable with my drawings and push myself to share them, even if I wasn’t sure I wanted to. I wanted to see how my activist work would show up in my drawings. (That last one is still not happening enough to my satisfaction and I want to keep working on that.)

I’m not sure I can keep up another #draweveryday streak for another year. I also write music and poetry and that has kinda fallen to the wayside, so I might want to focus on that this year. Then again, my brain sure does cling to a routine, so… so here’s a lizard! I’m going to try to let myself have some days off and be less rigid with it, but I think you can expect more #drawalmosteveryday posts.

Hello, aujourd'hui, j'ai fait quelques essais d'impressions de ma série de dessins de plantes et de fleurs toxiques et je suis contente du résultat. Le papier ressemble à l'original mais en moins fragile.

To wrap up this month of March, a few more lines and color washes for an illustration of the port of Piriac-sur-Mer, a charming little town in Loire-Atlantique, France. Piriac-sur-Mer enchants with its flower-lined cobbled streets, granite houses, and fishing port that once captivated Flaubert, Zola, and Daudet. Its Breton identity is reflected in its architecture and street names. With 11 km of wild coastline, coves, and sandy beaches, the Castelli trail offers a walk with breathtaking views.
